I finished the latest book for NetGalley and will be writing my review later this week. I really enjoyed this one, so much so I (a) bought a copy of it for the poet’s Kindle, and (b) bought the author’s first novel immediately after I’d finished reading this one. I printed off the latest version of The Fool to date, in case I needed something to read out at the writers’ group, and because I like to see the full, latest […]

Monday 19 August 2019

I spent most of Friday doing client work. I currently have two in, and both need to be finished this week. But I also did quite a lot of admin work on the Richard Cadbury book. I’m meeting Richard Cadbury’s great-great-granddaughter on Thursday of this week, and so we had a chat about that on the telephone. I’m also hoping to arrange an appointment in London to see some more primary research material that belongs to the family. I spoke […]

Friday 16 August 2019

Yesterday was mostly spent doing the “heavy proofreading” job. It’s an interesting subject and I’m enjoying it very much. But it’s going to take some time. The new job that came in is correctly written, but it isn’t my favourite type of narrative and I’d like to change much of it or send it back to the author to do. But this one has to be back by next Friday, so I’m going to put my personal prejudices and opinions […]

Thursday 15 August 2019

Not one but two jobs failed to arrive yesterday. One was probably delayed by the current riots in Hong Kong – they’re disrupting travel arrangements by the sound of it. The other was just late in at the writer’s end. Fortunately, I had some proofreading to start. But if I hadn’t had that, I would have done some writing. The proofreading job is going to take longer than I thought, but at least I made a decent dent in it. […]

We had a good session at the writers’ group on Monday. I’ll be writing a report just as soon as I can fit one in. Yesterday was a very busy day. The morning was spent doing admin for the Richard Cadbury book. I’ve arranged to meet his great-great-granddaughter in Birmingham next week and I had to do some jiggery-pokery to ensure that the poet will be home in good time for the dog. He may even be able to work […]

NaNoWriMo 2018 – days 9, 10, 11 & 12

I hit my weekly target by the end of Thursday evening. I’d planned to take Sunday off, but as things transpired, I had 3 days off! But as I’d hit my weekly target by the end of Thursday, I didn’t beat myself up too much over it. Friday was a sad day as one of our chickens died. We’d been nursing her for several weeks, so it wasn’t a surprise. It was just so very sad. On Friday evening until […]

Domestic weekend

We manged to have another weekend off, an entire weekend to ourselves without any obligations to anyone else. And we got quite a lot of work done too, both around the house and on creative stuff. On Friday evening, the poet continued to edit the ‘G’ is for … video for the alphabet adventurers. By the end of yesterday, he’d finished the video – apart from the voice-over, which I think he’s hoping to do tonight – and he edited […]

Phew!

We made it … well of a fashion. We took 2 weeks off and we literally did not stop. We moved house. We moved office. We moved the chickens. And still we have lots to do. The first thing that came over was the spare bedroom, so that we’d at least have a bed to sleep in once the chickens and cats were over. What a nightmare that was, as the mattress is actually broken, almost in half. And it […]
