Writing marathons are not good

(Image by cocoparisienne from Pixabay) Tuesday 10 August 2021 The day did not start as late as I thought it would, but it did start later than I would like. These last-minute writing marathons have to stop. They’re simply not sustainable. Of course, it’s my own fault. I should just do my work when it’s scheduled instead of faffing. Overnight, the ghostwriting instalment that I submitted was approved for payment and the contract arrived for Book 5 Part 4. This […]

Organised at last

(Asana screenshot in calendar view) This week I needed to concentrate on catching up with the ghostwriting work. Right after having one writing marathon and submitting it, I was straight into another, and that isn’t sustainable. Also, if one step was delayed in any way, it pushed the rest along too. So I took the week off blogging, Medium, my own writing and self-publishing and tried to come up with a system that will work. I did allow myself an […]

Welcome to new followers

Image by R. E. Beck from Pixabay First of all, a very warm welcome to Words Worth Writing to all of the recent new followers. Since we limped over the 1,000 followers mark, the number has been steadily increasing. I’ve been working on republishing all of my self-published books in paperback, and I’m still mulling over a competition where the prize is all of my paperback books, self-published and traditionally published. This competition is for all of you lovely followers. Monday […]

New diary this week!

I started Monday off with some study time. I’ve downloaded 6 free courses from Reedsy that each consists of 10 x 5-minute ‘lessons’. So six of them equal 30 minutes of reading time. By the time I’d done this, it was 10:30am and I was well into my ‘my work’ time. Next up, I veered off into ‘client work’ territory and had a quick look at the outline for ghostwriting gig #6. I sent my feedback back, I wrote Monday’s […]

A productive Monday

Monday was a good and productive day. Mondays usually are my best days for work output… then it’s all downhill from there! Before I even got up I received a notification from Amazon that I have a royalty on the way. But looking at the reports, I can’t see what this is for, so I’m now thinking it might be a glitch. Once I was at my desk, the first thing I did was go through and update my diary […]

Hit the ground running (list alert)

Image by alan9187 from Pixabay I worked until 10pm gone on Friday, but I did it. As usual. I wrote my 11,000+ words, checked it over as I finished each chapter, and sent it off. By the time I surfaced on Saturday, payment had been approved and the next instalment contracted. Honestly, if I did that every day, apart from having to be peeled up from the floor I’d have a completed novel every … week! Obviously, though, that’s unsustainable, […]

That was the week that was

This week I’ve tried to do a bit of my own work in the mornings and client work in the afternoons. I kept on being distracted by colourful sparkly things, though, and it became a bit of a chore to drag my attention away from that and back to the job in hand. Monday was mostly faffing with book covers and flyers and other PR and marketing material. I gave the blog a facelift, and I wrote a blog post […]

Ghostwriting, proofreading & an interview

(Image by Please Don’t sell My Artwork AS IS from Pixabay) This week seems to be dashing by in a bit of a blur … For my first job on Monday, I caught up with diary work and scheduled the week ahead. An addition this week was proofreading in from Hong Kong that arrived first thing Monday morning. I wrote and scheduled a couple of quick blog posts, and then it was back to work. The rest of the day […]

New regime

Image by Karolina Grabowska from Pixabay After all of my planning work last week, the new regime starts today. Before I started any of it, however, I had some admin to look after. First of all, the poet’s COVID jabs letter came through and he booked both of his appointments. Both of those went into my diary. Then I had a new appointment come through from the hospital. I thought the next time I was there it would be for the […]

Time management

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay Tuesday afternoon was more ghostwriting. I was late getting started with it, due to date work and scheduling a couple of blog posts in advance. But by the time I got around to it, I’d run out of steam. I was left with a choice: Stare at a blank screen for the rest of the day, or do something else and pick it up again the next day. So I did something else. I […]

Crowded lakeside

Image by Robert Balog from Pixabay On Saturday we popped to one of our local parks to partake in our daily (dog) exercise. It’s a newish park that has a lovely walk around a massive lake. We knew it would be busy, but we didn’t think there would be a load of idiots there too. When we arrived, it was a job in itself to get from the car to the path, as it was very icy. And when we […]

Welcome, 2021

Happy New Year to everyone! Let’s hope we kick this virus in 2021, so that life can return to normal. I had a lovely long Christmas holiday, almost three whole weeks in the end. And while we were still very busy, I also did quite a lot of navel-gazing. I’ve been cogitating over the way I structure my working day. It is clear that I’m at my most productive and creative in the mornings, and I’ve tried to work on […]

Back into the groove

You know when the schedule’s starting to work again when you get an extra 10 – 20 minutes in which to do whatever you want. Some people may re-jig their schedule as they can probably squeeze something extra into that extra time. But I prefer to reward myself for being busy because, otherwise, I just may burn out. Today, I’m writing an extra blog post! 🙂 (Lucky you lot!) The diary has had a bit of a re-jig today and […]
