Wednesday 12 August 2026: Naughty puppy

We were up with the larks again on Tuesday morning, as it was Day 2 of the decorator being here. I was still trying to get this proofreading job back to the client and getting more and more stressed the longer it took.

I had a really broken day of work trying to field the dog, the decorator and a poorly poet, but the decorator kindly said he could finish at 2pm, as he was coming back today anyway, so I could take the poet for a 3pm GP appointment. He was feeling far too rough to take himself. I got through quite a bit of the proofreading, though, considering. But the dog was being a bit naughty as well and wanting a lot of attention, very ‘mine, me, mine’, though, rather than ‘let’s play’.

What will be our new GP couldn’t fit him in yesterday at all, so we had to drive over to the other side of town to our old GP where, fortunately, we’re still registered. The long drive convinced us that we need to prioritise transferring to our new GP sooner rather than later, even though they couldn’t fit him in as quickly as our old one could. We are so going to miss that doctor’s surgery. It’s the best one we’ve ever had, probably since we were both kids.

She diagnosed a UTI, or water infection, prescribed him some antibiotics, and told him to keep sipping water. When we got back he went straight to bed and I did a bit more work. After the sun went down, I hobbled round the block with the dog, and we had an early night as the decorator was coming back again today at 8am.

He had a rough night, but seems to be on the mend slightly this morning. I’m hoping he won’t mind having the dog with him today while I crack on. The plumber’s coming this afternoon as well, to measure something in the bathroom. Then I might nip out to get some new bedding to go with the new bedroom.

Short n sweet, then, Hopefully more tomorrow.

  1. Oh, I hope you both feel better tomorrow. Both of you being under the weather probably freaks the puppy out, so he’s demanding more attention. Maybe he will play nurse to the poet today and things will settle down. Feel better!
