On Thursday I actually managed to get some work done again.
I was up on time, because the poet was off to the second day of his 2-day conference. He really shouldn’t have gone as he was full of cold and he felt like shit. But he’s a trooper and off he went, hoping to at least finish a bit earlier so he could come home again.
I put a washload through, hung a washload on the clothes horse, put a washload through the tumble dryer. I fed the dog, I fed the birds, and I did the garden patrol. I emptied the dishwasher and I put the baking dish out in order to make a bread and butter pudding…but the bread I was hoping to use was still in the freezer, and I prefer to use slightly stale bread for a bread pudding. So that idea was shelved and I had a look in the cupboard to see what else we had.
We had a tin of pear halves in juice…
We’ve been running the cupboard down, haven’t we? But that was okay. We still had home made ice cream in the freezer and we had strawberry juice or runny honey, wafers or chocolate flakes, and coloured bits. Pudding was sorted. But what about tea? Tea was supposed to be minced beef and rice…and the minced beef was still in the freezer also. D’uh!
I had another think and looked at Friday’s tea. Battered fish and chips (fries). Cool. The fish can be cooked from frozen. We’d just switch the days around.
I did all of my exercises and after breakfast I took the dog for his walk. When we got back, I went straight into the client edit proofreading job, starting with the author’s corrections and suggestions. A number of emails came in throughout the day regarding the house move and the situation alluded to the day before continued throughout yesterday as well, still without resolution or any response.
The rest of the day was spent on the proofreading and I opened up an email I could make notes in as I went through so I don’t have to remember it all when I send it back to the client.
On his way home the poet called to see if there was anything he could pick up from the supermarket as he was dropping in to get Lucozade. I explained the tea situation and he agreed the fish was a good idea. But he couldn’t be arsed to make chips from scratch, so he picked up a bag of oven chips. He fancied some mushy peas as well, so he bought a tin of those. And he picked up an American cheesecake for pudding. Nom!
When he got in he collapsed in a chair with a bottle of Lucozade at his side. And I made tea. Well, it was such an easy one.
It’s always a shorter blog post when I’m only concentrating on one job, and this one is no exception.
It’s a glorious day today, after a week of cloud, rain and low temperatures, and we have a heatwave forecast for the next few days, which is nice as it’s a bank holiday weekend.<
I don’t know what we’re doing yet, if anything. But whatever you’re up to, have a good one. And enjoy the long weekend if you’re having one.
