Friday was a fair day in which I did get some tangible work done.
The day started as usual and on time. I did my reading over my dirty cuppa and I did my usual household chores. The poet was working from home as well and aside from a few Teams meetings, he was able to come with the dog and me on our 30-minute walk.
As soon as he’d finished work, he went off to the butcher’s to get our meat for the coming week’s meals and when he got back, he set to in the garage, making a start in there on what could go to the tip and what he wanted to take with us when we move.
I worked pretty much solidly on the proofreading job, but I’d forgotten this job needed me to rewrite it from the first person into the third person, and that takes a bit longer than simply checking for typos and other errors. I had a good session, but didn’t finish it. It was good to have made a start, though.
Payment came in from the job I invoiced for only a couple of weeks ago, so with that and one of my pensions that came in on the same day, I was able to do some financial jiggery pokery, aka transferring it all from the ‘in’ account to the ‘holding’ account. I didn’t do my weekly finances, though, and I didn’t do my weekly backup. So those two jobs had to be done today.
We heard from our landlord’s agent asking for an update on our house move, so I put in a quick phone call to our solicitor just to see what I could say to them without dropping us in anything if there are further delays. He whispered very quietly that we were probably about a month away from completion, which is good news and it gave me something to negotiate with. I asked the agent to ask our landlords for a one month extension, saying that would also give us time to give the house we’re leaving a tidy up and clean.
Movement, though. Hurrah!
The poet made us a bacon and mushroom quiche for tea, I made us a cherry and berry crumble, and I called it a day.
As he’d done the butcher’s run the day before, and collected food for the garden birds, I went out on Saturday to do our weekly shop while he had more time in the garage. When I got back, we jumped in the car and took the dog to a favourite closest lake for his walk. We had pizza for tea but passed on the crumble this time and went straight to chocolate while we watched Britain’s Got Talent.
On Sunday we were up relatively early and we headed off to Wakefield to try those two country parks we couldn’t park at a few weeks ago when we ended up at the National Trust property at Nostell Priory. The first one, a place called Newmillerdam, was already heaving again, so after just one circuit of the car park we headed off to the other place in the hope there was more room in the much bigger car park.
We got to Pugney’s Water Park and found a space straight away, and when the poet went to buy our parking ticket, he said there were loads of spaces this time. Last time we drove around it twice before giving up and going to Nostell. I used to take Rufus to Pugney’s a lot on my own, and I think I took the poet there with him once or twice too. Alfie thought it was the best place in the world. He had a lot of fun rolling in the long grass and saying hello to hundreds of other dogs.
Pugney’s is really popular with dog owners and there’s even a doggy shower there. There’s also a castle on a hill, a nature reserve and a miniature steam railway. At the end of our walk, the poet treated us to an ice cream 99 (chocolate flake) and mine had red juice and coloured bits on. There weren’t any sails on the water but the weather was lovely and it was ace to see all the activities all around the lake where visitors could have a bit of fun, such as parallel bars, monkey bars, balance beams, stepping logs and suchlike.
When we got back a piece of pork the poet had put in the oven on a slow roast smelled gorgeous.
I hadn’t got around to writing today’s blog post on Friday either, so I rattled one off today instead. Sorry it’s late – but it may be that during June there will be fewer posts as we have a lot to do if we do get the keys to the new house.
Keep everything crossed!
