Friday 22 August 2025: Bank holiday weekend ahead!

Ohmygosh, I was soooo tired on Wednesday night, we went to bed early and as soon as my head hit that pillow I was literally gone. The next thing I knew, it was 15 minutes until Thursday morning’s alarm. I ended up snoozing the alarm for half an hour, but not only was I late getting up, I absolutely didn’t feel like doing a thing. I just wanted to go straight back to bed. I fought it, though, but the already truncated flylady hour was a goner.

Bleary eyed, I slowly made my way through my dirty cuppa, hitting my desk a good hour later than I should. (The word ‘hitting’ may be a bit…inaccurate here…) I forced myself to do just one job off the list, which was to submit this week’s assignment for the WMG Publishing special workshop on creating short story markets. Fortunately, it was already written. I just had to give it a quick polish and then send it.

I forced myself, again, to actually go and get dressed. And then I forced myself to make another dirty cuppa and drink that while I started today’s blog post.

I think two early starts on the trot were responsible for this lethargy, but Thursday’s have historically been very tired days for me, for at least as long as I’ve been working for a living. Maybe I go all-in gung-ho at the start of the week and end up burning out by the end of the week. Perhaps I should finally recognise this trait and make Thursdays easy days.

Thursday always used to be my once-a-month do-diddle day. Probably for the same reason.

Anyhoo, a cup of tea may not have been the best thing for waking me up, although it does have some caffeine in it. Maybe next Thursday I’ll make my dirty cuppa a coffee. A very weak coffee. I love the smell of coffee, especially when it’s freshly brewing. But I have to drink it very weak, very milky and very sweet, as I’m not a big fan of the taste. By the time I’ve made it the way I like it, though, I may just as well have a cup of tea!

The rest of the day was editing. Editing, editing, editing. And first, I just wanted to finish the hard copy edit and give myself a big tick. I started off a Pomodoro timer, and off I went.

In between sessions I did things like share the gig list and the daily competitions, both over a drink or a meal. And the parcels that were due to arrive on Friday all came on Thursday.

I did want to get going on the screen edit too, but by the end of the day I’d at least completed the hard copy edit. I opened up the plates pdf to edit those on screen, and Foxit wouldn’t let me. So then I wasted valuable minutes trying to find out what was up. I could get it to let me comment on other files, but not this one. I uninstalled the latest version and installed an older version. But the best thing I could get it to do was let me add a note. So that’s what I did.

Today I have the screen edit of the book to get on with, and finish if I can. Then I want to do the pre-writing for Novella #10 of the great novella challenge. I can see this one being taken into the bank holiday weekend.

Yes, it’s a bank holiday again in the UK. Our next one is at Christmas. So whatever you’re doing, have a great weekend.

  1. That was a busy day! yeah, if I hit Monday and Tuesday really hard, by the end of the week, I’m toast. Sounds like Thursday is a good day to be your slower-paced day.

Have a great bank holiday weekend — ours is next weekend. I plan to do a whole lotta nothing!
