Friday disappeared a bit sharpish. I’m glad to say that I did indeed clear the proofs for the client edit I’ve been working on, leaving just the plates to proofread today. But the poet went and swapped the car for the camper van and gave me until he’d filled it with fresh water, clean clothes and some fresh food to finish what I was doing.
Then we were off to a campsite in Mablethorpe, on the North Lincolnshire coast, for 2 nights. Because we can do that now, if we want and if there’s room. And if there isn’t room, we can park in a layby.
We wanted seaside and our first choice was Scarborough, but the campsite there was fully booked. I’d thought we were heading back to Ingleton, our first ever campsite in the van, but no, it was the seaside. But when Scarborough was full, we tried Ingleton too, and that one was full as well. So we did a campsite sweep of the broad area and Mablethorpe was one that popped up. Or the one closest to the seaside.
It’s a Blue Flag beach there and our site was less than 30 minutes away on foot, as was the town centre and the eateries. After we arrived we went straight to a chippy for our tea on Friday. I had cod roe, chips (fries) and pickled egg and the poet had battered sausage and chips. And we did a bit of shopping in the Co-op on the way back.
On Saturday we waited for the rain to stop while we had something to eat, but then we walked to the beach and had freshly made waffles with cream and strawberry sauce. Again, we did some shopping on the way home and we had bagels and cream cheese for tea. On Sunday morning we packed up and came home, emptied the van, took it back to the lockup, collected the car, and did the weekly shop before the supermarket closed.
We didn’t take any pictures at all this time, not even with the phones. This was a chill weekend by the sea without any pressure. It was a lovely, clean, tidy site. We’ll probably go again as it’s under 2 hours to get there.
I was supposed to be at the dentist this morning for the second half of my full mouth deep-clean, but the hygienist has taken poorly ahead of her maternity leave. Today’s appointment was rebooked for 30 September, at 11am, which is the one they brought forward to today! I’m going to start putting them in the diary in pencil again, I think. Can’t stand a messy diary!
It’s given me more time to work on work today, but I do have a few things that need to be done or started:
- 12 STORIES IN 12 MONTHS for September is due in on Wednesday (I have to plan and write 1,000 words by then)
- proofread the plates for the Taliban book
- this week’s diary
- today’s and tomorrow’s blog posts
- CATCH THE RAINBOW
- Monkey Dust admin
That’s a lot for one day…
Suonds like a really fun weekend, in spite of the rain.
It was nice and impulsive, but I think there may be more just like it! We don’t mind the rain, especially now we have a portable changing room on wheels if we need it.
