Thursday 8 January 2026: Rabbit holes…

Wednesday began a little later than it should have done due to the dogs having us up a few times in the night. Puppy has had a touch of the trots so we were probably half listening in case he wanted out urgently. Turned out it was us waking them, but once they were awake…They went out 3 times before we gave in and got up. Once for seconds, once for 10 minutes and once for 15 minutes.

I fed them and we had a bit of a play before we headed off for Wednesday’s light treatment. The hospital is getting busy again after the break. We went one day over the holiday and there was hardly anyone there. It’s back to normal again now, though.

We got back in time for us both to do a bit of work. I’d accidentally put the wrong book cover on the publication day graphic everywhere, so I had to redo the graphic then get it updated and shared again.

We had our midday breakfast, but then we were out again, this time dropping the poet off for a few hours while I came back to see to the dogs. When I got back, a big job I did was go through all of my books on Google Play and remove the DRM. I’ve pretty much decided that anyone who knows how to remove it for sinister purposes (i.e. theft) will know how to do it, but now at least anyone who buys the ebooks there will be able to read them on any device.

I understand that Kindle is giving indie authors and publishers the option to remove DRM too, which will save me a lot of work for the few books I buy there when I can’t get them anywhere else.

The dogs had to both go in the bath to have their feet washed. Both were happy to do so, and both waiting until I told them they could get out, once I was ready with a towel. They didn’t go in at the same time, but they were both really good.

I updated a load of my files from 2025 to 2026. I don’t often do this all at once. Instead, I wait until it’s something I’m working on anyway, I copy the entire folder over to a new directory, then change the title of things like the short story master file and the bookazine master file (both Scrivener) to include the new year. That way, I still have everything up to the previous year, but I can probably go in and safely delete any already copied over from the year before that, so my hard drives don’t get too clogged up.

Then I moved things down in their respective Scrivener files from folders called, say, ‘stories in progress’ or ‘Words Worth Reading stories’ to, say, folders called ‘Wordsworth Shorts’ or ‘Wordsworth Flash Fiction’. All the stories that were published in Words Worth Reading Issue SIX will be published as standalone Wordsworth Shorts in the coming weeks. Moving them down from the last place I worked on them ensures I’m keeping the latest version.

I started today’s blog post and then I referred to my new workload calendar thing and discovered I should have written and published a premium post for Patreon. It was fine, though. I had the article already written…somewhere…And yes, I spent a lot of time looking for it too.

I ended up falling down quite a few different rabbit holes in the end and, in the end, I don’t seem to have done anything I was supposed to have done.

Ah, well. There’s always today…
