Wednesday 29 October 2025: Perfect partners

So here we are. Halfway through the week, and almost at the end of October, and I still haven’t done any work this week.

I’ve done some blog posts, yes. I also had a client edit back from the author, looked at his notes and comments, and researched and responded to some of his queries. Oh, I created a Perfect Partners graphic for Halloween books. And I posted a publication day post at the last minute on Monday.

Apart from that? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I have a novella due in on Friday, Book 12 of the great novella challenge. I have a short story due in next Wednesday, Story 10 of the 12 stories in 12 months challenge. I’m in the middle of another client edit, having already received my queries (and a brand-new file!) back from the author. And I’ve done none of it.

At least I don’t have any more publications due out between now and the next bookazine…or, at least, I don’t think I have…[toddles off to check…] Nope (thanks for waiting!). The next bookazine is due out in January and the next short stories are due out after that. So that’s something.

I also just checked the submissions calendar, and there’s one short story I really wanted to get submitted that’s due on 1 November.

There are several ways for me to get around this:

  • the short story for 12 stories in 12 months could also be part of the novella – 2 birds
  • a short story I did for 12 stories was written with this 1 November deadline in mind so can easily be tweaked
  • I could hire a dog-sitter so I can just get on with it all

As the latter is never going to happen, I may just go with the first 2.

Starting now…

  1. I’m sure the dogs want a lot of your attention right now! And it’s worth every minute.

If you’ve got something you can tweak for the submission, that’s probably your most stress-free choice.

    1. They both need/want attention, and one is a bit jealous of the other. But we’re getting there!

Yes, I came up with a couple of solutions in the end, including tweaking 3 for submissions.
