We actually got up at the time we planned to get up yesterday. Progress at last? Let’s see if we can keep it up. The poet is due back at work on Monday and we need to break him back into getting up on time gently.
It was a nice day so I put an unexpected wash load through and put some clothes away that were in the tumble dryer the day before. First job at my desk was yesterday’s blog post. It was written, I just hadn’t posted it the night before, so I did that first. And then I started today’s. Let’s see if I manage to post it at the end of the day…
The next job I did was republish Wordsworth Short #22, After the Storm. This was one of the jobs on the list for Monday that was pushed along. I’d already done all the leg work, I just had to do the republishing.
Next job was the book I was scheduled to republish yesterday, Wordsworth Short #23, The Battle of Killiecrankie. I got most of the way through this one but stalled when I hit the Amazon KDP site when they informed me I’d published the maximum number of titles. It didn’t say how many titled we’re allowed to publish or if there’s a certain time limit, just a single line and them not letting me even save the book.
So I did some research and it seems that KDP has been restricting accounts to publishing only 10 books per format per week, and I’ve clearly exceeded that. Before, they were apparently restricting us to 3 books a day. Later, though, I discovered that from Monday just gone, they’ve changed it to just 2 books a week. However, if we reach out to KDP we can apparently request an exception if we have a valid reason, such as migrating a back catalogue. And as that’s precisely what I’m doing, I fired off the query and got a real person as soon as I asked for one.
Apparently my request now needs to go into review and they will come back to me within 2 or 3 days, so I’ll carry on publishing the books everywhere else but will have to do the Kindle ones in batches. IF they grant me an exception. If they don’t, I’ll just have to pace the republishing a bit better with them. I’m republishing five or fewer books per week, though, and at a point in the near future this is likely to go back down to one a week. .
Good job my new publication dates are a couple of weeks into the future! And I do understand why they’re restricting the number of books a single publisher can upload. I just can’t see it working with publishers in general who publish several books a week. If they won’t budge, though, I’ll either go in and publish the books at a rate of two per week, or I’ll just pull the entire catalogue.
I finished the book everywhere else and then finally turned to that editing job and I finally finished the formatting. Removing those carriage returns shortened the book from 230 pages to 190 pages. That’s 40 pages of superfluous carriage returns I removed…I set it to print while I collected the next job on the list…but my printer cartridge ran out at p. 184. It just wouldn’t let me squeeze out another six pages…and I couldn’t remember if I had a replacement cartridge or not.
I always have two spare cartridges for emergencies, but we’ve moved house since I last stocked up. I couldn’t remember if I had a spare anywhere. I don’t connect the printer to the wi-fi so the manufacturer can’t decide when to pull the plug on it and force me to buy a new one. It must be wearing out by now, but nowhere near as quickly as it would have done had I left it connected to wi-fi. If we need anything printing, we just print it from my desktop, which is hard-wired to the printer. It’s not been a problem yet. (Touch wood…)
Anyway, I had a bit of a brain murmur and cleared a path to a cupboard we’ve set up in the office. And there, on the shelf, all on its own-some, was a spare cartridge. Yay! I was able to print off the last 6 pages! But I couldn’t start the next job on the list straight away as my pdf reader wanted to do an update. Grr!
By 6:30pm I’d managed to catch up a lot and the only outstanding job from the day before was the short story. That will move to the top of the list today.

Yay on the ink. So nice to be prepared, isn’t it?
I thanked my past self for being so prepared!
