At the start of the month we had builders here, levelling the back garden and turfing it. The job wasn’t as big as they’d thought it would be as the raised patio they were removing was filled with compacted sand instead of rubble and concrete and bits of cement. This at least meant that they finished a lot sooner than they thought they would.
From there we went straight into a vehicle test for my car, closely followed by the decorator coming, and then taking the campervan for testing too.
While the decorator was here, the poet took ill and he was poorly for a whole fortnight. All of this, naturally, had a knock-on effect and I didn’t get as much done in August as I thought I would, and the decorator only managed 2 rooms out of the planned 3.
I also had a family tea party I had to go to and, of course, we had the daughter’s wedding, which was nice when for the first time in 13 years the entire family – the entire family – sat at the same table at the same time and were thoroughly civil.
Towards the end of the month I pulled the plug on the new short stories and decided to concentrate on the republishing. That meant I didn’t write any short stories but I also didn’t republish as many books as I thought I might.
For a month where I was supposed to be easing my way back into work ahead of a busy September, though, it wasn’t too bad.
