Friday 21 August 2026: A wedding!

I started early yesterday by first getting yesterday’s blog post out of the way. I should have done it the day before, and was feeling very smug the day before, because I’d managed to write and schedule the blog to post for 2 days on the trot. Then I ran out of energy to do it before close of play on Wednesday. Yesterday, I just ran out of time.

The majority of the day was spent on the republishing work. I had all of my assets in one place ready to go, and had built up a really good rhythm. Then one of the epub files went awry in Google Play Books and it took me a few goes before I just created a new epub file, new cover png and jpg files, and started again from scratch. This time it worked, so it must have been a glitch in the epub file.

I was disappointed by my output by the end of the day as I’d only managed to republish 3 more books. The target was 5 plus the covers for the next 6 books. I didn’t even get onto the covers…

But I spent all day at it without any breaks other than eating whatever the poet put in front of me. I’m hoping today goes a lot better.

I’d just finalised the 3rd of the books I managed to shift when the dog decided he wanted a walk. It was gone 6pm and the poet, having overdone it a bit, thinking he’s a super human when in fact he’s poorly and should be taking it easy, was fast asleep in bed. So I had to down tools and take the dog.

By the time we got back, the poet was awake and he’d started tea. He suggested I go back to work after tea, but my concentration was broken, the rhythm interrupted. And anyway, my working day was now over. I probably could have done book #4, but I think I would have made too many mistakes and I might be putting those right today.

So I’ll start again today and try and catch up a bit.

Saying that, I have to take the poet over to the lockup first thing to collect the campervan and take it for its annual MOT. Then I have to follow him to the mechanic, and then we have to drive home. Later, when it’s ready, and hopefully avec MOT certificate, we’ll do the same journey in reverse. But it really does slice the day up into tiny chunks.

We also have to do the shopping today because we’re going to be busy tomorrow. It’s the daughter’s wedding this weekend and the poet is hoping to be fit and well enough to walk her down the aisle.

Whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s a goodun. Things should return to normal here next week.
