Wednesday 22 April 2026: More publishing

Overnight I had a return email regarding the workshop I wanted to join in May. Yes, the study along had been cancelled, but not because of a low uptake. They decided to cancel all in-person workshops this year as due to the current political climate they didn’t want people travelling across borders unnecessarily. Instead, he said I was welcome to join the making a living writing novels workshop instead, and he sent me my enrolment code.

I was up early, due to the poet going out and the puppy not wanting to go back to bed, and I had an extended reading hour, which made up for the one I lost the day before. I managed to read quite a few chapters of my book, a non-fiction on book marketing.

My housework hour overran because I spent time cleaning out all the bird baths and drinkers. We have 4 all together: 2 drinkers, 1 shallow dish, and the bird bath. And they were all filthy dirty. The birds are already busy feeding each other, which means there are eggs in nests and babies will soon be coming to the garden. I wanted to make sure they had a decent water supply. Took longer than I thought it would, though.

I also fed the birds, emptied the dishwasher, and brought the household bin back from the street. Again, I wanted to walk the dog after I’d had something to eat, as I don’t want to be passing out on my way around the village, and instead I went straight into the next story on the list to be republished: The Girl on the Bench.

But first, I made a checklist with every job on it I need to do for each re-publication. This time I didn’t forget anything and I didn’t have to go back and change anything. Once it was done, it was done. Then I went an enrolled on the workshop starting in May.

I took the dog for his walk, created an image for yesterday’s blog post and wrote it up, and I rejigged the schedule so the dog walk is after a meal and not before them all. I’m still doing the same amount of work each day, I’m just doing it in a slightly different order. I also wanted to add in those 6 weeks of workshops.

I tried to get back to the editing a few times, but the dog kept wanting attention and the poet wasn’t on an early finish. So I started today’s blog post and this time meant to schedule it ahead of time too. I’d forgotten about the premium article that was overdue for Patreon and Medium and I did plan to maybe do it today. But as it was already written, all I had to do was choose and credit the image, submit it to both, and format it for both. So I did that as well.

When the poet did get home, I asked him to take the puppy for an hour to give me a good run at the editing, even if it was just the one. (Don’t do nothing just because you didn’t do something…)

That meant I touched everything I wanted to touch yesterday at least once, plus the premium story, which was a bonus. Today, all being well, should be the last one on this editing job…And then I can start the first proofreading job!
