Wednesday 12 March 2026: Nanna napping

I finished an hour early on Tuesday. I was so tired, all I wanted to do was go and take a nanna nap. I had a nap on Sunday and a nap on Saturday. This is becoming too much of a regular thing. At least I didn’t need one on Monday, though, eh?

I had a good hour when I only planned on half an hour. I’d set the timer on my watch, but it didn’t go off for some reason. But when I woke up, I was refreshed and the poet was already cooking tea.

Yesterday morning started well, although I was half an hour late getting up. My leg and hip had decided to play up in the night but had eased by morning. I had my dirty cuppa and tried my first morning pages, giving myself 10 minutes for this dry run this week. I had no idea what to write, but I managed just over 200 words…Should I add that to my daily new-word count? I think I may. It all adds up.

When my 10 minutes were up, I started my reading hour. This is something I’d love to get into the habit of doing, especially if the puppy isn’t having a mad half hour. He woke up with a bit of the devil in him, but he curled up beside me as I did my morning page and read a couple of chapters.

I was so disappointed when the reading hour was up. I could have carried on all day! I had washing to hang out, but the temperature seems to have plummeted and it looked like rain was on its way. We’ve had a few days clear of rain, so we must be due some more. I left the washing for the time being and took the dog for his walk instead.

He was quite good, only barking once at another dog and only jumping up one pedestrian. Both are habits we’d like to curb. He was much calmer as we walked beside the playing field. But he’s starting to lose interest in dog treats while he’s on his walk. I’ve had this with every dog I’ve ever owned. They’re all far more interested in what’s going on around them.

Thirty minutes may be the maximum for him, and for me, at the moment. I did want to build up to closer to an hour, but an hour is a big chunk out of my day and he’s getting bored by the end of the 30 minutes or so we’re already doing. I’m also flagging a bit, especially on the hilly parts. Perhaps when we get good at a 30-minute walk we can go for another 30-minute walk of an evening. He gets a good, long walk at the weekend too, and he only has little legs.

When we got back he had a drink then started zooming around the house. I let him into the garden, and he had his zoomies around the garden instead. Then he picked up his ball, came running at me, dropped it at my feet, and carried on running! This is the first time he’s brought a ball to me and actually dropped it. So, of course, we had some learning time to fetch the ball, but I made him sit and wait until I threw the ball again, which he did. And when I asked him to ‘fetch’ it back to me, he did the same again, rushing off to get the ball, doing a couple of circuits of the garden, then dropping it at my feet but now waiting for me to throw it again.

Progress! And he’s not even 7 months old. (He’ll be 7 months old on Sunday.)

Of course, he soon got bored of ‘letting’ me have a play with the ball, ran off with it, and refused to bring it back to me, instead choosing to roll all over it. And when he lay down, tongue lolling out, big grin on his face, we came back in, where he had a good sleep.

My first job of the day was editing, but I started today’s blog post first and had a bit of a faff before breaking for my midday breakfast. I wrote the next book review, created the graphic, and scheduled it to post on Monday. Then I turned to the editing.

I didn’t get around to any dates work yesterday as I’m sticking to my 6pm finish time. I finalised today’s blog, chose the graphic, scheduled it to post, and closed down.
