Tuesday 9 December 2025: Tax return

Right after posting yesterday’s blog post on here and on Patreon, I started today’s. I had a bit of work to catch up on from last Friday, so got onto this straight away.

The day started bright and early again with no sign of the rain that was apparently bombarding the rest of the country. Yorkshire was one of the few places the rain wouldn’t arrive in, but York residents were on standby for the River Ouse bursting its banks. (Um, York is in Yorkshire…) But we woke to sunshine and wispy clouds, although there was evidence of an overnight downpour.

We got up, had our dirty cuppas, and I put some washing through. Then we headed off for light therapy appointment #4. The traffic was good to us and I was in straight away while the poet drove around the car park just the once this time before finding a space. It was 4 times before he found a space the previous Monday.

By the time we got back, there was just 30 minutes left of my quiet hour before our midday breakfast. I didn’t even have time to do any reading this time. I used the time to catch up on social media while he played with the dogs in the garden. (Because, I can’t go outside after a session.) And then I made our breakfast. I took mine to my desk, though, so I could start that catching up from Friday.

I started with the quickest job of the lot: last week’s weekly backup. While that ran, I opened up my finances spreadsheet, and when the backup had finished, I updated my finances to last Friday. I’d already done this week’s diary one day last week, so that was one job already ticked. I scheduled last Saturday’s short story on Patreon to post on here in 4 weeks’ time (for 7 days only).

And then it was my tax return for the year to April 2025. This latter job should be so much quicker next year, if I keep on top of my finances every week. It took all afternoon as it was, but while I was in the middle of it the call came in from the vet with the results from the spaniel’s ear swab.

There’s nothing untoward, thank goodness, but there is a bacterial something-or-other going on and could we go and collect some medicine for him. As the poet had already finished work for the day, off he pootled. The vet wants to see the dog again on Monday. So there’s another appointment we need to attend (as the spaniel won’t go anywhere unless we both go with him).

The tax return was so much more complicated than I remember. But I did it, I reconciled my figures. And I submitted it. At 7:25pm. They owe me money again, but I prefer it that way. I don’t know if they’ll send it automatically or if I have to claim it separately. I’ll check in tomorrow or the day after to see if I have to do anything online.

And that was it. The day was done. I quickly finished today’s post, chose a picture, scheduled it on here and on Patreon, and closed down for the day.

Today I’ll be getting back to the client edit.
