Tuesday 14 April 2026: April showers

After strong winds last week, and some squally storms, it seems April showers proper finally arrived at the weekend. We went out for walks on both days, and on both days we were really lucky with the weather, hitting only a brief shower on Sunday’s walk and getting home just as stormy rain started throwing itself at the house following Saturday’s walk.

On Saturday we went out to Sherwood Forest for the day, and on Sunday we were back at our more local Langold Lake in North Notts as we were also visiting, and we had visitors ourselves who were bearing Easter eggs! That kind of visitor can always come again!

On Monday, after a pup-disturbed night, we struggled to get up and we had a really lazy start. But before I even took the dog out for his walk, I started today’s blog post, in a bid to get a bit ahead at least. When we got back, I managed a good hour, probably a bit longer (not even just a Pomodoro) on the client editing and I finished the hard copy edit I had hoped to finish last week. It was only 9 pages, but it was the last 9 pages, which were bibliography pages, so a lot of tightly packed text.

Paused for midday breakfast, then straight after I was back on with the editing, but this time making the changes on screen. (Two different sets of eye muscles: one for the hard copy edit, another for the screen edit.) The poet had a Teams meeting but as soon as he’d finished it was time to go to the dentist for my 3-monthly hygiene visit and my 6-monthly checkup.

The hygienist was new, and I probably made her feel nervous by being a nervous patient! But she was lovely. Then I went for my 6-monthly checkup and my dentist finished the appointment with a big grin and an “I’m very happy.” I have never, ever had a dentist ever say something like that to me in my life. Ever.

So I too am very happy with that. I just wish I’d received the same level of treatment and advice when I was growing up.

Back home and it was time for our afternoon meal, and once that was done it was back to the screen edit. I lasted as long as I could before the light went.

Not much else to report when I’m working on just one job at a time.

Today, I hope to clear this editing job so I can start the next proofreading job.
