Friday 5 December 2025: Gantt charts

I had an early start on Thursday because, although I didn’t have to go for a light therapy session, another contractor was coming to look at the roof. A second opinion. So I was up early again.

We’d had a bit of a disturbed night. The puppy must have eaten something that didn’t agree with him because he had me up twice. The third time he started to fidget again, the poet got up with him and fed them both. He had a meeting to go to anyway, but by the time he was on his way, I was up.

It was my quiet hour and I was having my dirty cuppa with the pup on my lap and the spaniel on the chair when the roofer sent a text to say he was having a hair cut and then would be on his way…Eh? Very strange text from someone I’ve never met.

At least it meant I could have my play time with the dogs early and then get on with some work right after the contractor left. We’d just come back in and the dogs had settled down when he pulled up.

He wasn’t here for long. Decided the roof didn’t need replacing but he’d get by with patch repairs, new gutter and fascias in places (he called them soffits, but they’re fascia boards), and a lick of pain.

I was able to hit my desk sooner rather than later, but instead of cracking on with the editing job, I instead went in search of gantt charts. I wanted an overview I could insert into the 40-project planner spreadsheet so that everything’s together.

Well, as ever, it took me all day to find a load, try them out, work out how they functioned, decided which one I wanted, and then add in some projects to the end of the year. And by the time I’d inserted it into the workhorse spreadsheet, the poet was home, it was pitch dark, and nearly time for tea.

He’d had to go to the shop on the way home to get a topping for the trifle I made. I’d forgotten to put any on the shopping list on Saturday and the cream he picked up on Wednesday on his way home turned to butter when I whisked it. He couldn’t get whipping or double cream again, so instead he stopped off at the bargain store and picked up 2 packs of 3 Dream Toppings. If we can’t get cream, we use Dream Topping.

So I had to quickly rattle of a blog post for today then go and make the topping for the trifle.

I’m back at the hospital this morning for Session #3 of the light therapy. Then we’re at the vet this afternoon, again, to get the spaniel’s ear swabbed.

I don’t think we have any plans for the weekend, so we’ll just take it as it comes. Whatever you’re up to, have a good one!
