It’s publication day today for Fireworks at Killiecrankie, Wordsworth Short #43.
This was originally a flash fiction short story, because the original version came in under 1,200 words. As the revised version came in at around 1,250 words, that made it a regular short story.
These lengths and series came about because Amazon at first wouldn’t allow a very short story to be published. We couldn’t ‘pad’ it with front and end matter because Amazon penalised padding, and quite rightly too. So I was going to publish the flash fiction stories in a collection.
But then Amazon allowed the shorter stories through as well, and I had a rash of very short stories published one after the other. And that is how the flash fiction series came about. I’d already started to make stories at least 1,201 words, in order not to upset them. But their change in policy meant I’ve now published 15 Wordsworth Flash Fiction stories.
But this one still makes it as a Wordsworth Short, and I had to change the branded cover from Flash to Short. Quick and easy enough in Affinity.
I first wrote a short story about Killiecrankie a long time ago, The Battle of Killiecrankie. Fireworks at Killiecrankie is the first sequel to that story, with others in the planning stages.
It has been published in Words Worth Reading.
