I started the day yesterday downloading garden magazines on Readly for the past year. If I can keep a year of magazines downloaded, then I’ll always have it if that magazine is pulled from the platform.
At the moment, I’m perusing jobs to be done in October. We have to wait first, for the garden chap to come and reinstate the boundaries again and bring the trees and bushes under control again. We may also ask him to put all the borders back in too, as they’re currently clogged with weeds.
I didn’t have a lot of time to get into anything detailed as I had to go for my first physio appointment for my back. I hadn’t done Tuesday’s blog post the day before, so I did that. I hadn’t done the publication post for Instagram on Monday either, so I did that too. I fed and watered the birds. And I had a quick look at the day’s new competitions. Then I started today’s blog post.
By this time, it was time for me to get ready and go out. It’s only 20 minutes up the road and, as usual, once I was in my car and driving, I wondered why I didn’t do this more often, drive. My licence won’t last for ever and I should really use it while I can.
While I waited in the waiting room, I did some easy work on my mobile phone.
The physiotherapist was pretty much on time. He gave me a thorough triage and checked the x-rays I had done 9 years ago and the bone density test I had done 2 years ago. And the good news is he doesn’t think I have any kind of spondylosis, but I do have some slight disc degeneration.
This is good news because spondy exercises are very restricted and concentrate on strengthening the core, and there are loads of yoga poses I shouldn’t do if I have spondy. He said I’ve probably been a bit guarded over the years and my muscles have deteriorated more than perhaps I’d like, and now we have to get me back to exercising again, including yoga and pilates and definitely walking again, but with some strength training exercises thrown in as well.
Generally, and for my age, let alone for someone who’s been pretty inactive for years, I’m still very flexible, and he thought that was good too. He also thought it was ‘good’ that the pain responds to pain killers. We just need to build up my muscles again and claw back some of that strength I may have lost.
He does want to keep an eye on my sciatica nerve, because my leg does sometimes go to sleep or develop pins and needles suddenly when I’m standing. But going forward, he’s going to give me some exercises to do, there may be some gym exercises, and he wants me to look at starting the yoga again. The gym exercises I *may* get on prescription…probably for something like 3 months if they’re doing that around where I live.
After he’d finished pressing on my spine and pelvis (really hard! 😩) I felt like I’d had a session with a chiropractor. Anyway, he doesn’t think I have anything to worry about regarding diet and agrees that the weight issue is due to movement (or not) and age (bless him). But now I think I’d rather find a yoga studio than a leisure centre that runs yoga classes. Apparently there’s a difference, and I don’t mean just in price.
I also see dumbbells in my future…(we once chucked a full set out…)
Back home, I was starving, as I’d rushed a breakfast to make my appointment. So I had a cuppa and some (healthy!) biscuits (British, not American) before returning to my desk. Then the rest of the day was editing, editing, editing.

That’s great news!
Yes, the classes are very different. Yoga studios generally give you more personalized attention to modifying poses and what you need specifically for your body. I’d suggest starting with a gentle class and then maybe try an all-levels class.
Thank you!
I’ve been looking for yoga studios close by, and the nearest is half an hour away. I’ve asked her for her prices.
