Wednesday 11 March 2026: Back into the swing

Tuesday was all about getting back into the swing of things. I’d had a lazy few days and I’d let a few things slip. And it was time to pull my socks up and get back into a good rhythm.

Walking the dog every day last week resulted in me losing almost 4lb in weight. Four pounds. In less than a week. Then on Sunday we went to the seaside and though we had another big, long walk, we also had fish and chips for our tea. By Monday morning, I’d gained a pound. And after pigging out for most of Monday for my birthday, I didn’t even dare get on the scales on Tuesday.

But I knew I’d over-eaten. I felt bloated and my belly felt really fat and balloonimus.

I hadn’t updated my diary for a couple of weeks, although the schedule was up to date on TickTick. But because it wasn’t in my diary, there was nothing for me to tick. And I mean by hand. There are little check boxes on TickTick and they make a satisfying ping! every time I tick one. But I wasn’t looking down a page and ticking things off with my hands as I went along.

I know it seems a bit daft, but it resulted in me not getting a lot of work done for the past week or so.

Yes, the money laundering thing had taken its toll, as well as a lot of time. I forgot to mention in yesterday’s post that we received an email from the solicitor at 10:58pm on Saturday (yes, almost 11pm on Saturday night!) asking for more information.

There were 10 items I had to clear. Nine for me and one for the poet. Mostly on what I do for a living, what I’ve been living on for the past 2 years, and where my money came from. (Er, for the past 2 years I’ve been living on the interest of that money…) I know I said I didn’t do any work all day, other than a book review. But I also spent very many hours on that. And because it wasn’t in my diary, I’d forgotten about it.

And it was exhausting. Hence, I only felt like reading a book at the end of it all. Mind you, this is the whole point on taking a back seat on the work front for the time being, so I can be flexible enough and do it when I need to.

Anyway, first job of the day on Tuesday was yesterday’s blog post, and then I had a look at the week’s schedule and I transferred it to the diary. I’m much more productive and on top of things if I keep it in the diary.

The dog also had his walk, I also had a quiet hour in which I read a book, and I also put some washing through both the washing machine and the tumble dryer.

I had a look at the schedule for next week to see if I can start to squeeze in some morning pages. A friend of mine has been writing something every day in 15 minutes every day for more than 200 days on the bounce. I think I could spare 15 minutes of my dirty cuppa hour as I have one of those every day. I also like to read in that hour if I can, but I don’t mind moving the reading part to the house & garden hour…

Or, I could have a house & garden half hour followed by a reading hour…Or the dirty cuppa/morning pages could be half an hour and the reading hour stay as it is but run 30 minutes into the next (house & garden) half hour…Yes, I think that one might work.

And that’s what I settled on in the end, and I decided to start it today to see how it goes before committing it to the diary every weekday. I also selected one of the notebooks Son #2 bought for me for Christmas and a pen, so I’m ready to go and have no excuses.

I have no idea what I’ll be writing, or what I’m supposed to be writing. But I’m willing to play it by ear and just see what comes to me.

Walking the dog is currently taking just under 30 minutes, but I’d like to build that up to closer to an hour if I can, slowly.

With the rescheduling work out of the way, next job of the day was this month’s dates work. I was running behind, so gave myself a good 2-hour run at this.

I worked solidly on it until the only thing I had left to do were the ‘on this day in history’ dates. By this time my eyelids were dropping and I felt as though I might nod off at any moment, I’d had a good day, and there’s another session booked in for this today, so I called it a day an hour early, finalised today’s blog post, and closed down the office.

If the weather’s fine today, I want to get back to hanging washing out again as well. If not, I’ll put what I can through the tumble dryer and the rest will go on the clothes horses.

Also on the schedule today: Mostly editing. More dates work. Oh, and it’s Devon’s birthday. We are 2 years apart and 2 days apart. Happy Birthday, my friend!
