Tuesday 3 June 2025: We had another holiday

On the Friday before the holiday weekend, I struggled to get up. We both did. But I had work to do and he had meetings to attend. We were so tired, we were about ready for a break.

Over my dirty cuppa, after I’d fed the birds, I was pleased to see our hop-along starling getting stronger on his right leg. He still held his left leg up, but at least he was holding it up. It wasn’t dangling. We hoped it was a temporary injury.

The goldfinches brought their chicks to the feeders and showed them how to stick their heads in the tubes and find food. Pity the greenfinches didn’t teach their chicks how to do that! We feel honoured that so many wild birds are bringing their chicks to our garden.

First job of the day was last Friday’s blog post. I’d forgotten to do it on the Thursday again. Once I’d posted that, it was onto Week 5 of the advanced depth workshop revision. Again, the assignment was to go and find what they call Stage 4 writers and see how many times they use some of the tools we’d been told about in a few of their stories. When I have more time I will go back and do that. But I didn’t have time on the Friday before we went away. I still had 2 posts to write and schedule. And I still had a novella to write.

I started today’s blog post and wrote and scheduled the May Wrap-up post, but before I could do the Hello, June post, I had to plan my workload for June. There’s more detail in yesterday’s post. With that out of the way, I wrote and scheduled yesterday’s post, and then I came back to today’s.

Finally, I turned to the great novella challenge for May, but I didn’t have a lot of time as Monkey Dust had a Friday night gig, and we were having an early tea, and then we were off on holiday for a week in Devon. More about that in tomorrow’s post. But it meant that Novella #7 came with us on holiday, and followers and friends on social media will already know how I got on.

  1. I love reading these posts. Leaves me itching to get productive!

Not necessarily related to the post but it’s a question that has been driving me nuts. From an ignorant Canadian: What is a “dirty cuppa”?!

    1. I’m so glad you’re still enjoying the posts and find them useful!

Dirty cuppa: We’re on the 16:8 eating regime, where we starve ourselves for 16 hours of every day and fit our day’s eating into just 8 hours a day. We stop eating at 8pm, and we start again at 12noon the following day. Ian is usually very good about having a ‘clean’ coffee before noon, which is a black coffee and, thus, no calories. But we’re allowed up to 100 calories during our starvation period if we want, and a cup of tea with milk is about 20 calories. Therefore, my cup of tea is ‘dirty’ because it’s got calories in. Hope that helps! 😀
