Thursday 9 Feb 2023: First negative test

I decided not to work late on Tuesday as I already knew I’d be working late on Wednesday and I didn’t want work to intrude that much. When I got to my desk on Wednesday, I tried to reply to a comment on here first, and I kept getting an internal error message. I wasted more hours than I should trying to sort it out, and had to go over to MS Edge and paste a reply there. I was still only testing and not expecting it to work when it did work! And lo, if you have email notifications you would have seen that reply too.

Anyway, I sorted it out eventually and was able to go back to proper work. (Blummin’ technology.)

The poet tested negative for the first time in a week. Technically, and legally, he could have still gone to work on the day he tested positive. But the reason we caught it was because someone had it and irresponsibly went on a night out where there was a crowded room full of people. I was lucky. I only tested positive for three days. The poet was less lucky, and he has yet to test negative again tomorrow. But we know someone who is still suffering and there will be other vulnerable people like that. Saying that, we also know a lot of people who were there that didn’t get it. But that doesn’t make it all right. I’ve started to take my mask everywhere with me again because I don’t want to get sick again.

I finally caught up on the competitions. I kept only doing one or two and then closing it down, but then the list kept on getting longer and longer and I didn’t want to be in a position of spending an entire day catching up. So I did that, which means I’ll only have to spend five minutes a day on it, if I keep on top of it. The competitions are a bit like a warm-up for me, they get me used to the screen.

The next job was to outline the story I brainstormed on Monday for 12 Stories in 12 Months. And then I skipped over everything else to do the ghostwriting. I started by reading through what I’d written on Tuesday. I try to do this every time I write a chapter or have any kind of break between stints, just to get me back into the swing of things.

Then I spotted something shiny on Medium and disappeared down a rabbit hole… Duh! I dragged myself back and tried to get on with it again.

  1. Glad you’re both on the mend. I’ve kept wearing my mask throughout. It’s still no guarantee I won’t get it, not with so many people dancing around being irresponsible. But every outing, at this point, requires risk assessment. I’m going to a couple of things this weekend that require both proof of vaccination and masking, so we’ll see. They’re going to start charging at least $130 a pop for any new boosters over here, which means a lot of people won’t/can’t get them, and things will get even worse. It’s so discouraging.

    1. People over here need to know how much it’s likely to cost you guys over there just for a booster. Perhaps they won’t whinge as much when they get their for free! (Apart from those who make National Insurance contributions, of course.)

Personally, I think we still need more stringent restrictions over here. But hey, who am I?
