NaNoWriMo 2018 – decision made

20181025_093924With only a week to go I finally made a decision, and I’m hoping it’s the right one … bit of a gamble, but that’s how it goes. This year I’m being a NaNoReBel – again!

Last year I chose to write a non-fiction book: A History of Cadbury (to be published on 30 November 2018). This year I’m going to revise the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo 2016: Catch the Rainbow.

Above left is a picture of my NaNoWriMo reading companions. From the top down: Killing Rage by Eamon Collins, about the IRA; Long Time Coming by Robert Goddard (my NaNoWriMo readalong), always an inspiration; Structuring Your Novel by Robert C Meredith and John D Fitzgerald; Night Crawler by Diane Wordsworth, to refresh my memory; and Writing and Selling Your Mystery Novel by Hallie Ephron.

I haven’t decided which writing book to use yet. The mystery novel one has lots of planning sheets to fill in, the structure one has lots of suggested reading. I won’t have time to do the planning sheets or the extra suggested reading, but I may just read the instruction part and apply it as I go along.

I will be writing Catch the Rainbow from scratch, using the material in the existing version for background. And I’m making it a Marcie Craig retrospective mystery. I’ve discussed this in depth with the poet and I’ve asked one of the beta readers what she thinks. And between us we’ve decided that it’s certainly doable, if potentially hard work.

So I’m going for it, and I’m excited.

Who else is doing NaNo this year? This is me if you want to buddy up. See you there!
